The Ops Room / New Gallery
« on: May 26, 2019, 06:08:21 PM »
Hi everyone

The new gallery is coming along well, but now I need your help.

Please could you look at the following link --->

I need you to identify which commission or reunion the pictures come from. Sadly the old gallery is dying on its feet so will be retired completely as soon as I've got the new photos all uploaded.

Photographs and captions are being added as we speak, currently about 1300 pictures. Captions are taking quite a while as there is no way to automate any of the process so everything is being done on an individual basis.

There are some pictures that I'm not sure where they should go so I will add an "odds and sods" folder. Please comment on these so I can place them in the correct folders.

Thanks for the patience.

OK, the new gallery is up and although sparse I'm adding content as quickly as I can. As soon as everything is copied across I will delete the old gallery and change the links to point to the new one. It will take a fair bit of time as I don't have all the original CDs of images so each image will need to be downloaded and re uploaded into it's new directory.

The link to the new gallery is
Hopefully it will all go swimmingly. Fingers crossed.

Over a thousand photos transferred - sadly, they were the easy ones!

Once again, many thanks for the invite to the mini reunion. I suppose it's high time that I started earning the rum that I managed to sup that evening!

Crash has supplied me with the photos from the reunion and I am trying to put them onto the site. Sadly the software used for the gallery is now over 15 years old, which in computer terms is rather ancient. With ongoing security updates it's probably reaching the end of its life.

I have decided to investigate another Photo Gallery and will aim to migrate all the photographs over the next few weeks. I don't want to lose the Victorious Archive - it is one of a kind and needs to be preserved.

In the meantime I will upload Crash's pictures elsewhere and link to them so that everyone can see them.

And to answer Stan's questions.

No, it won't cost anything.

Yes, I have tried hitting it with a big hammer and swearing at it.

Just to say that all 3 of us had a brilliant time on Wednesday. Sadly we couldn't stay over and help you to finish the rum!

I'm not sure why, but dad was late out of bed the next day - old timers eh? No stamina.

Hopefully see you all at Coventry.

As some of you are aware my father served on Vic during the 1st Commission as part of the SAR flight. He was an airframe engineer. He's been involved with the RNA and FAA Association for many years, however the office he had at home was becoming a little threadbare.

I've given it a lick of paint and some artwork for the walls. I've got one more picture to hang, as soon as I get it unwrapped I'll post some more pictures.

Odds and sods / New photos from Derek Bettridge.

I've been supplied with a CD of many pictures from Derek Bettridge. They are mainly from the 1st Commission (sadly there are no pictures of my father). I've loaded them up into the gallery - which is going from strength to strength - over 2700 photos and 4 million views. One thing that is missing is pictures of the current HMS Victorious - are there many about?

If so, I'm sure everyone would love to see them.

An apology to all - I thought I'd uploaded the Winter Edition, sadly I hadn't.

Here's the latest copy - many thanks Stan.

Take care,

The Ops Room / Reunion 2013 now online!
« on: December 18, 2013, 10:54:42 PM »
After hitting the computer with Stan's large hammer and then having to hit it again with his credit card, the Gallery is now back up and running with pictures from the 2013 Reunion.

Sorry it's taken so long, but it now seems to be working. The website has had to have extra space on the servers - currently now 9Gb - that's 9,000 million bytes of data that we are using. To put it in perspective, the Apollo moon landing computers had about 16,000 bytes of data!

At the time of writing the gallery stats are pretty impressive -
2,325 files in 18 albums viewed 4,237,090 times

I think this must be the largest archive of Victorious pictures in the world, and it's all down to you.

Many thank's for your patience,

The Ops Room / Back from an extended refit!

Hi All,

Firstly major apologies that I haven't been around as much as I would have liked, however I see Crash has kept the board looking tidy - thanks mate.

Photos from the 2012 reunion are now up in the gallery - - many thanks again to Crash and his trusty camera!

I've managed to fix the database issue that was stopping pictures appearing on the main site - lots of merlot has helped with that!

There is also a membership form available for download from the home page of the site - hopefully it will bring in some new members.

Hope you are all well,
